Observational drawing

We do lots of observational drawing throughout the year.
Observational drawing has many benefits, it helps the children to develop different skills.

  • Slow down, and really look, noticing different details.
  • Look closely to find out more about the object they draw.
  • Notice different lines and shapes, and parts of the picture.
  • Record what they actually see.
  • Revisit and ‘look again’ at their work.
·         Communicate what they see and think.
·         Make decisions about what to emphasize and include in a drawing.
·         Share experiences and thoughts, imagine and explore ideas, focus and concentrate.
·         Develop their language skill to communicate with peers and adults about the objects being drawn.

Here we are doing our first observational drawing.
