Reading to a teddy

Hatching a dinosaur egg

This $2 Shop Dinosaur Egg created a  lot of discussion in the class...

We talked about if it was real, what it felt like, what it smelt like, what type of dinosaur will come out, how can we make it hatch and what other animals lay eggs. We talked about 'instructions' and what types of things have instructions.
Then we waited and waited and waited. The children kept checking every few minutes to see if it had changed! They were very intrigued and excited.
The next day we had a baby stegosaurus!

Hieroglyphics

We tried writing our name in Egyptian writing - hieroglyphics.

More preparation for art expo - pyramids, boxes and mummies

We used a pyramid net to make a 3D model.
We did 2-3 layers of paper mache. First with newspaper then with white paper. Some of us enjoyed getting our hands wet with glue and feeling the sticky slimy glue. Some of us did not!

We painted our pyramids yellow

To make the mummies we wrapped wooden peg dolls using paper mache. After they were dry we glued on googly eyes.

To make the boxes for the mummies we used sparkly gel pens and yellow dye. We coloured in templates of the lid and the base. We had to cut and fold then construct the box.
